WHY DOES THE MILITARY HAVE STANDARDS FOR THEIR PACKAGING?

Military packaging standards developed out of necessity, especially during World War I and World War II, when armies had to move massive amounts of supplies across oceans and battlefields. Early in those wars, inconsistent crates, poor labeling, and fragile containers caused delays, damaged equipment, and even loss of life when critical supplies did not arrive intact. In response, the military began creating strict specifications for container sizes, materials, markings, and handling procedures. Over time, these standards evolved into the highly organized logistics systems used today, allowing supplies to be shipped, stored, and distributed anywhere in the world with speed and precision.

The reason these standards remain so strict is simple: what is being transported is too important to risk. Military packaging is designed to protect equipment from extreme weather, rough handling, and long transportation routes, while also making it easy to identify, stack, and move quickly in high pressure situations. Standardization brings order, safety, and efficiency, ensuring that the right supplies reach the right people at the right time, often in moments when lives depend on it.

HOW TO MEASURE A BOX

The standard method is Length × Width × Height. Length is the longest side of the box, width is the shorter side of the opening, and height is the distance from top to bottom when the box is standing normally. Using this method ensures accurate shipping rates, proper stacking, and efficient use of space. A simple, consistent system prevents mistakes, saves time, and keeps everything organized from warehouses to delivery trucks.
